Dr. Duc M. Nguyen is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon in Redwood City, CA, who treats patients experiencing a wide range of bone and joint disorders. He has a general orthopedic practice as well as a subspecialty in spine. His general orthopedic focus includes management of a wide variety of disorders affecting the shoulders, arms, elbows, wrists, some in the hands, hips, thighs, knees, legs, and ankles. His spine practice includes treatments for conditions affecting the neck, mid-back, and low back.
Dr. Nguyen firmly believes in managing nearly all conditions first through conservative measures, and then by recommending surgery only when unavoidable. When surgery is necessary, he uses the least-invasive, state-of-the-art technique available for each particular condition. His surgical treatments include various arthroscopies, ligament reconstructions, joint replacements, and many others.
In treating spine conditions, Dr. Nguyen uses the concepts he developed while being mentored by the legendary spine expert Thomas E. Whitesides, MD, at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals. Dr. Nguyen employs surgical techniques to treat disc herniations, spinal stenosis for the low back, and numerous conditions affecting the neck.
Dr. Nguyen is a graduate of the University of California at Davis, School of Medicine. He completed his internship in general surgery, residency in orthopedic surgery, and fellowship in spine surgery at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals in Atlanta, GA.
He is affiliated with Sequoia Hospital in Redwood City, CA, and the San Mateo Surgery Center in San Mateo, CA. Dr. Nguyen is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, Western Orthopaedic Association, North American Spine Society, and Robert P. Kelly Orthopaedic Society and has served multigenerations of patients in the area for his entire time in practice.
